A New Pastor

Last Sunday, we had official confirmation of Bishop Richard Lennon's decision to choose St. Casimir as the name for the new parish formed by the merger of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. George parishes.

Today we have official confirmation that the bishop has appointed Fr. Joseph Bacevicius to be the pastor of St. Casimir parish, which will be located on the site of the current Our Lady of Perpetual Help church.

Under Fr. Bacevicius' leadership, St. George has managed to serve both its Lithuanian commuter membership, and the needs of the local neighborhood in the East 67th and Superior area. Fr. Bacevicius has also been responsible for the largely Hispanic St. Francis parish, which is also closing as part of the Cleveland diocese's current reorganization.

"Fr. Joe" will undoubtedly be a great asset to both the newly united community of Catholic Lithuanians in Cleveland, and to the fabric of the North Collinwood neighborhood. We wish him well in his new assignment, and look forward to the opening of St. Casimir on October 25th.

  1. Lithuanians survived the savage brutality of Stalin in their home country and managed to create organized, cohesive ethnic communities in exile. Lets hope we don't waste all of that looking for someone to blame for the recent turn of events - we should have all seen this coming and have been prepared for change. The change is here - lets build on it for the future!
